An internal project that has yet to be launched, MyTown is an app that consolidates frequently sought out information for public use facilities.

There are a wide variety of apps that can tell you where the best restaurants are or what the show time for a movie is, but try and find the times when there's a lane swim at the local pool and you are in for some serious sleuthing.

Sherpa looked into some of the most sought out information in several key areas within Winnipeg. By our final count there were in excess of 24 websites that one needed to access to collect the information that populate the app. Some of these areas include:

Emergency Services
Recreation
Event
Government/Education
Weather
Transportation

We then built a scrape-bot that automatically seeks out the disparate web pages, brings the data to our servers and populates the data for the application. For example: A user simply sets his/her postal code and the application knows what garbage day the user is assigned. The night before the garbage is going to be picked up; the user receives a prompt telling him/her to "take out the trash". Ultimately, the desire is to create a version of the MyTown application for other major cities in Canada and sell ad space on the application to businesses in each city.
